Academic Advising & Coaching

Welcome!

Our certified academic coaches and advisors assist and support students in selection of majors, life & career callings, and academic success. Services and resources offered to students include:

  • Academic Support Services
  • Change of Major Counseling
  • Academic Advising for Undecided Majors
  • Academic Advising for Associate’s Degrees

We also assist students struggling academically during midterms. Students meet with academic coaches and together they create a midterm action plan to use as a roadmap to complete the semester successfully. All ASE students will be coached by the Student Success Center during their first semester at Carson-Newman University.

Academic coaches always provide resources and tools to equip students needing assistance with study skills, time management, and much more. Students are encouraged to visit our Student Success – Quick Links to access links and materials.

Services

Often, freshmen and sophomore students have not yet determined an academic major.  Until a major is declared, the Student Success Center will serve as the academic advising home for those students.  Our staff members are happy to serve deciding students with course selection, registration, and academic planning.  Additionally, we have resources available to assist in the decision-making process of declaring a major and determining a career choice. Once a decision is made regarding an academic major, students should come to the Student Success Center to officially declare (or change) their major! If you have any questions, please come see us on the second floor of the Library!

Carson-Newman offers an Associate Degree Program. This program is a unique way to gain a breadth of knowledge in the liberal arts leading to a two year credential and to earn credits which can also be applied toward a four year degree.

Associate degrees require a minimum of 60 hours. The core curriculum includes study in communication, biblical traditions, mathematics, science, and personal and social awareness. Remaining requirements may include courses in Religion (for Christian Ministries) or elective courses for the Liberal Arts or General Studies emphasis.
